Victory for all-weather football pitch campaign

After much resistance from council officers, and much bloody-minded insistence from IWCA councillors, it has finally been agreed that £161,000 will be spent on an all-weather football pitch for Frys Hill (at the end of Knights Road). This funding came in 2001 as part of the planning agreement for the Kassam complex.

However, a further £35,000 now has to be found because of the council’s reluctance to spend the money (which has fallen in value with inflation). All the same, this is a significant victory for the youngsters of the area.

IWCA councillor Jane Lacey, who has campaigned for a new football pitch from the start, finally had the opportunity to clinch the deal at the South East Area Committee earlier this month, through her position as an elected representative.

Residents will be consulted over the final details.
