Easter SATs booster course on the Leys

Those of you with children at school in Year 6 and Year 9 will know about SATs. If you don’t then you probably should. Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) have been devised by the government to assess your children’s ability in Maths, English and Science.

How important are they? Well they don’t lead to qualifications but the results are used by schools to set and group children according to ability. You should ask your child’s teacher what level they are working at for each subject.

In Year 6 the government expects a child to achieve Level 4 so Level 3 would be below this expectation while Level 5 would be above it. In Year 9 the government expects a child to achieve a Level 5.

If your child’s school gives a level that they are currently working at, which they should, then ask what they need to do to achieve the next level up.

To help and support Year 6 children in our community the IWCA is running a week of booster sessions to improve their chances in SATs. The sessions will be in Maths and English, will include practice papers and revision tips, and will be led by a qualified teacher.

A number of mixed sports sessions will also be held during the week for children attending and putting their efforts into the SATs course.
