Steady progress for the IWCA at local elections
The Independent Working Class Association (IWCA) gained another seat in the May city council elections.
Jane Lacey won the Northfield Brook contest with 620 votes, the IWCA’s strongest result so far in Oxford.
In the neighbouring Blackbird Leys ward support for the IWCA increased, with Maurice Leen gaining 519 votes but narrowly missing out on a seat.
Elsewhere in Oxford, Dave Kent came second with 297 votes in the contest for Churchill ward (Wood Farm/Town Furze) while James Craft set down a marker for the IWCA in Barton with just over 100 votes.
In the London borough of Islington the IWCA took 22% of the vote in two multi-member wards, with several candidates coming in second place.
We would like to thank everyone who voted for the IWCA.
We now have three councillors representing Blackbird/Greater Leys, giving you a stronger voice!
