Thrift Place finally refurbished
The IWCA is glad to see the flats in Thrift Place finally converted into new houses, after lying empty for over two years.
Before the renovation started late last year, IWCA councillor Lee Cole had constantly been on the case, pressing Bromford Housing Association and Oxford City Council-which sold them the land-for a date when the accommodation would be restored and put back in use.
Cllr Cole raised the matter twice in full council meetings and also warned Bromford that the derelict flats were a danger to the public, particularly local children, after the hoarding around the properties had been allowed to fall down.
Now the two new houses have been completed.
However, one task remains for the housing association: the paint splatters on the front of the building-which have been there since the flats were first vandalised-still need to be cleaned off.
The IWCA will be contacting Bromford and asking them to complete the job.
